St. Helena Parish Hospital is dedicated to providing quality patient care. We have partnered with the (HEN) Hospital Engagement Network, an affiliate of the American Hospital Association (AHA). HEN has been awarded a contract by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to support their Partnership for Patients (PFP) campaign. PFP is a public-private partnership that intends to help improve the quality, safety and affordability of health care for all Americans. The project assists hospitals with adopting new practices that have the potential to reduce inpatient harm by 40 percent and readmissions by 20 percent.

The PFP focuses on areas for quality improvement. Within these areas, HRET supports the implementation of proven best practices and lessons learned through the use of webinars and educational sessions to hospitals participating in the partnership. HRET provides this education and training with over 1,600 hospitals recruited by its 34 state hospital association partners in support of their quality improvement efforts in the targeted areas.

St. Helena Parish Hospital is currently engaged in monitoring and reporting on the following areas for quality improvement:

• Adverse drug events (ADE)
• Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI)
• Central line-associated blood stream infections (CLABSI)
• Injuries from falls and immobility
• Pressure ulcers
• Preventable readmissions

The Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services have developed certain standards of care, core measures, that help hospitals keep up-to-date with the best scientific-based medical practices, and measure how well we have adopted these practices. St. Helena Parish Hospital participates in public reporting of the following core measures:

• Heart Attack
• Congestive Heart Failure
• Pneumonia
